Abstract
Building Information Modelling (BIM) has emerged as a key digital innovation in the construction industry, with growing potential to enhance quality management practices across the project lifecycle. While numerous studies report individual BIM applications for quality planning, assurance, and control, a consolidated understanding of how BIM systematically supports quality management in construction remains limited. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the literature on BIM-enabled quality management in construction. Using a structured review methodology, existing studies are synthesized to identify BIM functionalities supporting quality management, classify applications across lifecycle phases, and examine associated benefits and challenges. A conceptual framework is developed to illustrate how BIM capabilities enhance quality planning, assurance, and control from design through operation and maintenance. The findings demonstrate that BIM enables a shift from reactive, document-based quality management toward proactive, data-driven approaches. The paper also identifies key research gaps and proposes directions for future studies to advance BIM-based quality management.
